Of the total of only 3,531 550s built, 448 were built as a Barchetta. The 550 was on the shortened chassis of the 456 2+2 and had a 485 hp (at 7,000 rpm) and 568 Nm (at 5,000 rpm) atmospheric 5.5-litre DOHC 65° V12 with Bosch Motronic injection up front, always mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This then sent its power to the rear wheels via a mechanical limited slip differential. The F133 engine would eventually win an award for Engine of the Year twice in the category above 4.0-litre. Thanks to its aerodynamic bodywork with drag coefficient 0.33 Cx, drawn by Pininfarina, the 550 reached a top speed of a whopping 320 km/h. A figure that is still very impressive even anno 2022. And that gave Montezemolo the idea of the Maranello competing for the world speed record title. So in October 1998, Modena sent a slightly modified version to the 12-km oval circuit of Columbus, Ohia in the United States. A few hours later, the 550 Maranello had three records in its pocket. Thus, the GT achieved an average speed of 306 km/h, 304 km/h and 296 km off 100 miles (160 km), 100 km and in one hour respectively.

This 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello comes in a unique colour scheme, namely ‘Blue Swaters Mica Metallic’ with ‘Tan’ leather upholstery. This is a very nice combination with the black leather dashboard and dark blue carpets, while the tan leather headlining adds a stylish touch. The original paint has recently been professionally polished and is still in very nice condition.

In April 1997, this Ferrari was delivered new to Germany. Here it has been well maintained by Ferrari dealer Eberlein Automobiles. In March 2014, it ended up in the hands of a French enthusiast. In the sunny Riviera, the 550 was serviced at Ferrari dealer Cavallari and DPM Motors in Monaco. It is technically in good condition and has driven just 46,115 kilometres. Inside the original tan leather folder, you will find a wealth of authentic Ferrari documentation, including the completed service booklet, several service invoices, the manual for the Becker radio, the Owners Manual for guidance, the warranty booklet, the alarm manual, a handy booklet with service points and addresses, and even the warranty booklet for the Hi-Fi system. All these original and valuable booklets have been carefully preserved. The Ferrari has electric seats, windows & mirrors, air conditioning, a Becker radio with navigation.

Under the bonnet there is perhaps the most important thing. A 5.5-litre V12. This 48-valve produces some 485hp at 7,000 rpm. It is therefore 0-100 off in an impressive 4.4 seconds. Top speed is then also at 320 km/h. Paired with this amazing engine, is the well-known ‘H-gate’ 6-speed manual gearbox. Ferrari said goodbye to the manual gearbox some time ago. This is precisely why they are now especially sought-after by collectors. Furthermore, this Ferrari has Sport Mode, ABS and power steering. The chassis, gearbox and engine numbers match, making this example Matching Numbers!

This car’s V12 engine exudes power. With the Tubi-Style exhaust, the sound of the engine becomes a distinctive feature, making every drive an exhilarating experience. The sills and floor panels are in good condition.

The 550 still has its original 18-inch ‘Star’ rims. The window codes match and have therefore never been replaced.

The timing belt on this damage-free Ferrari was replaced at 42,631 kilometres.
