Volkswagen T2 Wesfalia – 1972
Volkswagen T2, original Westfalia Motorhome,1972
– Original upholstery and interior
– Roof rack + extra upper bed
– Roof rack
– Lots of practical storage space
The Volkswagen Type 2. is mainly known as the Transporter. The first Transporter rolled off the assembly line in March 1950 and over 5 million “VW vans” were produced in 40 years.
Westfalia signed a contract with Volkswagen and introduced its first VW camper van in 1951. From the beginning, this new form of camping experience was immensely popular and Westfalia’s quality was widely praised and appreciated.
The first series (T1) came with the so-called split-window and in 1968 the T1 series was replaced by the T2 which got a panoramic windscreen, but otherwise the basic body shape remained almost identical except for a modified front end. This model was called “the Bay” and 1973 succeeded by “the Late Bay”.
The Westfalia camper van mentioned above is in fine condition and has new paintwork all round in the original Beige/White combination. Nice touches here are the white bumpers, the white intake grille and the white VW logo.
Westfalia built this camper van at the end of 1972 as one of the first according to the specifications of “the late Bay” (production number: Series 3. 00031).
Another special feature is the design with a lifting roof which created headroom, but also space for an extra bed at the top, although foldable/foldable but very practical. For that time, the Westfalia was richly equipped with a 2-burner gas stove, stainless steel sink with tap, fridge, hanging cupboard with mirror door, ceiling cupboards, lots of storage space under the benches, folding table.
The original interior is still in its original condition with the same fabric upholstery, matching curtains and the vinyl floor covering and it shows hardly any signs of use. And it all totally embodies the classic atmosphere of the 1960s/70s.
For extra luggage during longer trips, the camper van has a luggage rack on the roof.
In the driver’s compartment, the seats still have the undamaged original beige vinyl upholstery, all original and neat. In the glovebox, the JVC radio, through the flap, is hidden from view.
The car was first registered in 1972 and imported and registered in the Netherlands in 2018.
The car drives and shifts smoothly and is on well-profiled tyres (185R 14C). Read 5-digit odometer reading stands at 07489 (plausibly 107,489 km driven), MOT report present and valid until 13 June 2023.
A beautiful Westfalia VW camper van with lifting roof, luggage rack, new paintwork and whose solid original interior is still completely intact.
