Lotus Elan S1 – 1964
Lotus Elan 1600 from 1964.
Red with a black interior and a black soft-top.
This Elan, type 26, was completely restored.
The Elan became the first Lotus to be equipped with the now famous steel chassis on which a plastic body was mounted.
Colin Chapman, the director of Lotus, wanted a car with as little weight as possible coupled with as much power as possible.
With a weight of 680 kg, the Elan met this requirement. With its 1558 cc engine (126 hp), disc brakes on all wheels and independent suspension, the design was also technically very successful for that time.
The engine was derived from the Ford Kent, with a Lotus-designed Cosworth cylinder head with a twin camshaft.
This Lotus-Ford four-cylinder engine was later used in many production and racing cars.
The Elan from the first series is quite rare, especially in the condition it is in.
