– Extension set in 70s style

In 1957 England was economically still very much in a post-World War II recovering phase. The Suez crisis had sent fuel prices soaring, and engineers began to question whether the huge, thirsty cars of the past few decades made any sense to move forward. Alec Issigonis, a top engineer at the Morris Company in England, was given the challenge of designing and building a small, fuel-efficient car that could carry four adults. It took him two years, but by 1959 he had completed his assignment. The MINI was born.

In 1964 the Mini Cooper 998, Mini Cooper 970 S and Mini Cooper 1275 S were introduced. The 997cc engine was replaced by a 998cc engine. Until the model was improved in August 1964, Cooper also made two models specifically designed for track racing. These cars, with 970 and 1275 cc engines, were available to everyone. The 970 Cooper with the smaller engine size didn’t sell much. Only 963 of these were delivered in total, after which it was taken out of production in 1965. However, the 1275 cc Cooper S models remained in production until 1971.

This example was delivered new in France in 1994. It is built as Cooper S. Here it was given a widening set in the style of how they did it in the 70s. It was delivered in a neat ‘Old English White’ paint together with a black roof. Just like the exterior, the interior is in a neat condition. The black upholstery with red accents gives a sporty and qualitative feeling. There are some nice details inside the interior. The shift knob is a black Paddy Hopkirk shift knob as a tribute to iconic Irish rally driver Paddy Hopkirk. The same goes for the black leather Paddy Hopkirk poker cover with red accents.

The Mini is equipped with CSI. This stands for Classic Sport Ignition, or electrical ignition. This ensures better reliability and many ignition settings. The engine functions nicely and, together with the stainless steel exhaust, gives a sporty feeling.

A unique opportunity for a unique Mini!
