Jaguar first launched the 2.4 liter MK I in 1955. This new model was Jaguar’s first “small” saloon since production of the old 1.5 liter cars ended in 1949.
With the new car, Jaguar was targeting the rapidly developing executive market and its success was soon apparent from the many orders.
The 6 cylinder, 112 hp engine with its double overhead camshafts provided sufficient performance for the time and could optionally be supplied with overdrive and automatic transmission.
The MK I also drove successfully in many rallies, touring car and saloon car races with respectable drivers behind the wheel such as; Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Tommy Sopwith and Roy Salvadori.
For years the MK I 2.4 remained more or less somewhat in the shadow of the more romantic MK II, but the MK I is currently, due to its rarity, more and more sought after by enthusiasts of the British brand.

This exceptionally beautiful Jaguar 2.4 Liter Saloon was originally delivered in 1956 to the Swiss importer Emil Frey in Zurich. A brass plate from Elite Garage Paul Lindt, Berne is mounted on the rear bumper. The car was delivered ex works with the popular option package “special equipment” which meant; Chrome Jaguar mascot on the hood, extra chrome trim on the outside, Lucas fog lamps, separate seats for driver and co-driver, center armrest in the rear compartment, interior heating, windscreen washers, interior lighting on when opening the doors, 5″ large tachometer , electric clock, cigar lighter and gauges on the dashboard with red dot indication. The chrome work nicely with the black nitrocellulose paint and the well-closing doors together with the majestic red leather upholstery and burr walnut dashboard complete this luxurious saloon.
In 2009, after purchase, the car underwent an extensive restoration with a total value of almost € 24,000.00 (official invoices available) and in 2015 the gearbox was removed and the clutch renewed. The then owner was very pleased to have owned the MK I until 2019. The last owner has also invested € 6,500.00 from 2019 in this beautiful saloon, which has only drove less than 80,000 km from new.
Technically and motorically, the MK I is completely in order and always well maintained.

This is with number 709 one of the earliest 2.4 liter MK I saloons, still in good condition and definitely worth driving!
